Just Make It Happen "Let's Dance" Big Band Weekend

July 16-18, 2010

Northern Illinois University, Dekalb, IL

Duke Ellington Ballroom, Holmes Student Center

All the information can be found on the Just Make It Happen website (http://www.justmakeithappen-dekalb.com), but there are three days of dancing to live bands including the Johnny Kaye Orchestra, John Smith & Shananigans and the Brian Patti Orchestra. Tickets can be purchased for each dance, dinner/dancing, or in combination. Saturday there are also some lesson opportunities. Some on-site housing is available, but housing options fill up quickly!

Miller Park Dances

Cathy Hempstead hosts a dance at the Miller Park Pavilion. Dance to recorded music from 5:30-8:30 p.m. for $7 per person. Dances are the first Sunday of the month.

Lafayette Club Dances

Though at one time a "Singles Dance" Opportunity and still called a Central Illinois Singles Dance, the Lafayette Club dances are available to all dancers and feature a wide selection of music. Duke Babb DJs and there are sometimes "theme" dances. $10 per person. We've heard that Singles dances will be held through 2010 on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month, unless other arrangements are noted.

Eagles Club Fridays

The Bloomington Eagles Club has a live band on Friday nights with $5 cover. Non-Eagles members are welcome.

Prairie Land Dance Center, Illiopolis

A large (4,000 sq ft.) hardwood dance floor with plenty of space for multiple styles of dancing. Check their website pldc.org for information about dance events. They generally host ballroom dances the 3rd Saturday of the month in addition to periodic West Coast Swing lessons/dances.
